About

Common Body is a sculpture and interior object studio founded by Nathaniel Kyung Smith, an artist whose passion lies in the intersection of art and nature. All of our sculptural objects are handmade in our Los Angeles studio by Nathaniel himself. Drawing inspiration from the human form and its connection to the earth, Nathaniel works primarily with earthy materials such as clay, stone, and beeswax.

Through his work, Nathaniel seeks to capture the essence of the human body in motion, highlighting the fluidity and grace of its movements. Each piece is a unique expression of Nathaniel's vision, shaped by his meticulous attention to detail. By combining the organic textures and colors of natural materials with the precision and artistry of sculpture, Nathaniel creates pieces that are both strikingly beautiful and deeply meaningful.

OUR PRACTICES

We source the majority of our materials locally in order to limit our environmental impact and support bee health. We source the highest quality of pure beeswax and 100% cotton wicks from environmentally responsible family-run bee farms in Los Angeles. By supporting thoughtful beekeepers, we share in the well-being of the flora and fauna in our own community.

Since January 2020, we have planted a tree through One Tree Planted for every shipment we have sent in order to achieve carbon neutral practices.
